While it is indeed tragic, he did not simply die, he committed suicide. There is a difference, and we should not gloss over the difficulties faced by those in mental distress. His work was indeed brilliant, but his life was less than happy. Better to reach out to those in need of a friend, than to ignore the truth.
It's a reminder that talent and success don't ward off depression (or other psychological problems).
Always sad when someone finds this to be the best solution, and my heart goes out to his loved ones.
He made some really out-there stuff that I'm not sure I can categorically say I like, but it was out-there stuff that was NEW and the creative world is poorer for this loss.
I was very saddened to read this last night. I had often said that I wished he would stop doing t-shirts with skulls on, but this was not what I had in mind. A great loss to fashion.
Indeed a great loss for the fashion world, and by extension, the art world. What little I have read has said he was pretty well destroyed by his mother's death in early February, and had never really recovered from Isabella Blow's death. I have to imagine that these events combined with an artist's sensitive soul caused him to feel life wasn't worth living.
He was an amazing designer, and will be remembered.

I am so sad about this. I really wanted to try and do my internship for fashion design school with him.
